St. Lawrence River Watershed Revitalization Plan
Client Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District
Location Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties, NY
The St. Lawrence River watershed covers nearly 5,600 square miles across eight counties in northern New York State, as well as 185 miles of St. Lawrence River shoreline. EcoLogic teamed with Anchor QEA to develop the St. Lawrence River Watershed Revitalization Plan on behalf of the St. Lawrence River Watershed Project and the Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District, with funds from NYS Department of State’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. Our team is conducting a watershed inventory and characterization and examining the effectiveness of local laws, programs, and practices in protecting the river and watershed. We are incorporating input from a Watershed Advisory Committee to ensure that the Plan reflects the knowledge of stakeholders directly involved with the watershed, and we are soliciting public input through surveys and public meetings. This watershed planning process will give communities in the watershed a chance to consider projects that could promote economic investment, natural resource protection, regional sustainability, and community revitalization. A key outcome will be identification of specific implementation projects to help bring watershed revitalization goals to fruition.
